Aluminum and its alloys exhibit highly dependent metallurgical properties based on their chemical compositions. Hence, it is essential to obtain precise and accurate analyses in order to produce desired properties that meet customer requirements and reduce the amount of scrap due to off-grade materials.
Thus, for the analysis of high-purity aluminium, we use a spectrometer, an instrument used in spectroscopy, the standard technique for testing and analyzing a wide range of metals and alloys. We analyze aluminum's chemical composition to ensure it meets BSI standards because various elements might affect its chemical constituents, such as the proportion of raw ingots or recycled metal used.
In addition to analyzing both pure metals and alloys, the method is valuable in inspecting, identifying, and quality-checking samples, processed metals, and finished castings. Through spectrometers, metal can be analyzed as it progresses in its life cycle, beginning with its initial production and then moving on to recycling after its service life is completed.
How is aluminium analysis and testing done?
We create a metal dub by utilizing a sample of the smelted material from the furnace. It's planted in a lathe for a flat finish and placed in the spectrometer for testing. The analysis of the sample's chemical constituents is done by Arc spark optical emission spectroscopy, where the atoms and ions emit radiation in the atomic vapor. The radiation is further passed to the spectrometer optics directly to get dispersed into its spectral components.
Our team analyzes the purity of aluminium with the breakdown of chemical composition by the percentage on the screen. With the color-coded results, it's easy to identify the elements that are not within the normal range to be fine-tuned by our team for the standard chemical constituents of the aluminium.
